First special offer on my thrillers
Finding Pegasus, a post-Cold War techno-romance, is available on Kindle Countdown this week.
Every indie author faces the same problem, in one form or another—discovery. How do I find readers, and how do they find me? My first thriller, Treasure of Saint-Lazare, was chosen the best historical mystery of its year in the Readers’ Favorite competition and I still benefit from the seal on its cover, but even though it helped me sell 35,000+ books on Amazon, what's it done for me today?
My solution for 2025 is Substack, where I've recently moved my mailing list of 8,000 readers. Ten days ago I published my first marketing post, and today I'm introducing the first in a regular series of rotating special offers. For this week, the offer is a Kindle Countdown Deal on Finding Pegasus, a techno love story set in Miami and Hungary, with a nod or two to Paris, the center of gravity for all my stories and the reason I style myself the Part-Time Parisian.
This is meant to be more than a marketing blog. My backlog of story possibilities is long, and I hope to start working through it in coming weeks. Please stick around.
The story of Finding Pegasus, in brief: Mark, smart and successful military inventor in Miami, is developing a tiny autonomous spy submarine called Pegasus that carries its own quad-copter drone. He needs help, and his search leads him to Kate, a former Navy nuclear engineer who left the Navy to finish a doctorate in engineering.
Over months, they work uneventfully together, and then they fall in love. On their first real date, a romantic sail on Biscayne Bay, a limpet bomb placed by a Russian swimmer destroys their sailboat and comes close to killing them. Pegasus and Icarus are stolen from their shop, launching a worldwide search.
A note on Countdown Deals: Finding Pegasus is offered for 99 cents today (Monday, Dec. 16). The price will rise $1 a day until it returns to $4.99. Timing of the daily changes is in Amazon's hands, but it's usually around midnight Pacific time.
The Eddie Grant Series
Finding Pegasus is the third in the Eddie Grant series, which begins with Treasure of Saint-Lazare. It works well as an independent novel.
While Countdown deals are special, timed offerings for the Kindle edition, the entire series is available in Kindle, paper, hardcover, and audio editions. The books are also on KDP Select, which means you can read them free if you subscribe to Kindle Unlimited (which I use myself and recommend).
